Morning Has Broken
Performed by Cat Stevens
Christian hymn first published in 1931
Words by English author Eleanor Farjeon
Eleanor Farjeon's poem was set to music and became a widely used hymn and
became further popularized by the performance of Cat Stevens on his album Teaser and the Firecat (1971).
He determines the number of stars
and calls them each by name.
The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it.
By the word of the Lord were the heavens made,
their starry host by the breath of his mouth.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his love for those who fear him.
God made two great lights - the greater light to govern the
day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.
Can anyone hide in secret places so that I cannot see him?
declares the Lord.
Do not I fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord.
By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command,
so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the Lord who formed it
and established it--the Lord is his name:
Call to me and I will answer
you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.
Jeremiah 33:2 - 3
When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon
and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you
are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?
Psalm 8:3 - 4
My own hand laid the foundations of the earth, and
my right hand spread out the heavens; when I
summon them, they all stand up together.
You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens,
even the highest heavens, and all their starry host,
the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them.
You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.
To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?
says the Holy One. Lift
your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings
out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because
of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.
Isaiah 40:25 - 26
The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven
the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by
their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them,
because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world
God's invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly
seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
Romans 1:18 - 20
The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship.
Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him
known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is
never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their
words to all the world.
Psalm 19:1 - 4
Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord from
the heavens, praise him in the heights above.
Praise him, all his angels, praise him, all his heavenly
hosts. Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining
stars. Praise him, you highest heavens and you warters above the skies.
Let them praise the name of the Lord, for he commanded and they were created.
Psalm 148:1 - 5
