If I Were A Rich Man
Performed by Topol
From the musical Fiddler on the Roof (1964)
Composed by Jerry Bock
Lyrics by Sheldon Harnick
Whoever loves money never has money enough;
whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income.
He who gives to the poor will lack nothing,
but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses.
If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor,
he too will cry out and not be answered.
Man is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro:
He bustles about, but only in vain; he heaps
up wealth, not knowing who will get it.
No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate
the one and love the other, or he will be
devoted to the one and despise the
other. You cannot serve both
God and Money.
People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and
into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men

1 Timothy 6:9 - 10
The wealth of the rich is their fortified city;
they imagine it an unscalable wall.
The sleep of a laborer is sweet, whether he eats little or much,
but the abundance of a rich man permits him no sleep.
Dishonest money dwindles away,
but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow.
Whoever trusts in his riches will fall...
Do not be overawed when a man grows rich, when
the splendor of his house increases; for he will
take nothing with him when he dies, his
splendor will not descend with him.
Psalm 49:16 - 17
Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your
crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and
your vats will brim over with new wine.
Proverbs 3:9 - 10
Do not wear yourself out to get rich; have the wisdom
to show restraint. Cast but a glance at riches, and
they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings
and fly off to the sky like an eagle.
Proverbs 23:4 - 5
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
